When I was growing up, one of my favorite traditions was watching Jerry Lewis’ annual Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. I was fascinated by the idea that laughter, entertainment, and community could come together to raise money for children in need—known lovingly as “Jerry’s Kids.” The MDA also offered something special: a program where kids like me could write in and receive a packet with instructions and signage to create our own backyard carnival.
In the fourth grade, my parents and I decided to host one. Our yard turned into a little fairground, full of simple games, laughter, and neighbors stopping by to join in. At the end of the day, we proudly sent in the money we raised to help Jerry’s Kids. That experience left a lasting impression on me. It showed me that fundraising doesn’t have to be complicated—it can start small, right in your own backyard, and still create something truly meaningful.
That same spirit is what I want to bring to the Sparkle Motion Foundation. I believe in the power of grassroots fundraising, in the joy of community-driven events, and in turning fun into a force for good. Just like that backyard carnival years ago, Sparkle Motion is about bringing people together to make a difference, one event at a time.
